Sumcham is a remote high-altitude village in the Paddar region of Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir, located near the famous sapphire mines. At around 3,250 m elevation, it’s home to a small Buddhist community and serves as the last inhabited stop on the trekking route to Zanskar via the Omasila Pass.
Recently, Sumcham gained mobile connectivity through a Jio tower powered by VSAT technology, bringing vital communication services to the region. The village also benefits from solar power solutions and is expected to receive fiber optic internet soon. Surrounded by stunning Himalayan terrain, Sumcham stands out for its cultural richness and natural beauty, making it both a hidden gem and a gateway to Kashmir’s historic sapphire treasures.
